LIVERY BARN

The Livery Barn is the main building to store various horses and carriages while in town. Inside, there are multiple wagons used in and around Buffalo County. The first, is a homesteader’s wagon used to travel short distances along the Mormon or Oregon trail. The other large wagon without the canopy is a freighter’s wagon and primarily hauled food and crops. Another important service included the kerosene wagon. It delivered fuel to various farms and homes around Kearney. Other smaller wagons were also important to have on hand. A restored fire wagon from the village of Poole used soda acid to make pressure for the water hose allowed for more time to fight the fire while the smaller racing wagon entertained locals in early Buffalo County.
